Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadephia has told the Youth Synod that the phrase "LGBTQ” should be avoided in official Church documents.
Speaking to his fellow bishops today, the archbishop – one of five US bishops appointed to attend the synod – said that the Church “doesn’t categorize people” by their “sexual appetites”.
As a result, he said, "'LGBTQ' and similar language should not be used in Church documents."
Archbishop Chaput also expressed his concern that that the Instrumentum Laboris, the working document for the synod, does not explain “why Catholic teaching about human sexuality is true, and why it’s ennobling and merciful”.
