The Catechism may soon have a few more sins in it. Pope Francis has said that, inspired by final document of the Amazon synod, he is considering adding a section on the mistreatment of the earth. “We should be introducing – we were thinking – in the Catechism of the Catholic Church the sin against ecology, ecological sin against the common home,” he told participants at a conference on criminal justice.

Travelling around the world, Pope Francis often needs a translator who understands where he’s coming from. But his translator during this week’s trip to Thailand will fulfil that requirement quite literally: she is his second cousin and grew up with him in Argentina. Salesian Sister Ana Rosa Sivori, the Pope’s second cousin, has been a missionary in Thailand for more than 50 years. Their grandfathers were brothers.

Discussions about the spire of Notre- Dame have grown heated, according to the BBC. It’s reported that General Jean-Louis Georgelin told a meeting: “As for the chief architect, I have already explained that he should shut his mouth.” The general favours a modern design for the spire, while the architect Philippe Villeneuve thinks it should look medieval. A final decision will be made in 2021.
