- Patrick Gruhn; Media & Technology Entrepreneur Joins Board
- Agreement also grants rights to syndicate The Catholic Herald’s 137-year archive across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein
New York, October 10, 2025: The Catholic Herald, one of the world’s oldest faith publications, today announced that Patrick Gruhn, a European entrepreneur in media, technology, and finance, has made a significant equity investment in the company and joined its board of directors. This investment complements GEM Global Yield’s majority ownership since 2023 and shows strong external confidence in The Catholic Herald’s growth strategy.
“The Catholic Herald maintains its position as a leading faith publication worldwide because of its unmatched historical reputation and journalistic excellence. I feel privileged to join the board while making this investment,” stated Gruhn. “The opportunity to link The Catholic Herald's historical content with contemporary digital platforms while reaching new readers through my media outlets brings me great enthusiasm. The Catholic Herald possesses the ability to establish itself as the worldwide benchmark for faith-based journalism and commentary, according to my assessment.”
Mr Gruhn brings extensive experience from his work in Catholic television, print media, and technology ventures throughout Europe. The current CEO of PMX Technologies leads K-TV as a board member while overseeing its position as the top faith broadcaster in the DACH region. His experience in financial technology and derivatives, combined with his business leadership skills, media expertise, and capital markets knowledge, make him unique in his field.
As part of the investment, The Catholic Herald and Mr Gruhn entered into a licensing and content sharing agreement, and a content trial of The Catholic Herald's 137-year archive through Longbeard's Vulgate AI system, which digitises and indexes historical materials. Gruhn made a separate investment in Longbeard to establish a connection between faith-based media content and modern technological solutions.
The Catholic Herald achieved a major digital transformation during the spring of 2025, now reaching more than 500,000 monthly visitors to its website, and establishing a daily newsletter that delivers content to 750,000 each month. This funding will accelerate the commercialisation of historical archive content while supporting the development of podcasts, video content, and the publication’s international content expansion.
