More than 150 people have attended a prayer service at St Catherine of Siena church in Metairie, Louisiana, to pray for the recovery of Steve Scalise, the Republican House Majority Whip, and other victims of a shooting in Alexandria, Virginia.

Scalise, his wife Jennifer and their two children are members of St Catherine of Siena parish. Scalise, a congressman from the 1st District of Louisiana, was shot by a lone gunman while practising for a charity baseball game with other Republican members of the House and staffers.
