The sun was shining and the champagne flowing as the media department of Ratcliffe School celebrated its annual “Night at the Oscars” on June 30.
The evening was a glamorous affair, complete with an Oscar-themed light display and red carpet designed to celebrate the best production work of students in years 11 to 13.
Parents, staff and students were all invited to sample the delicious canapés, view the students’ productions, and hear the acceptance speeches, as students came up to collect their Oscars-style trophies.
The evening saw awards across 12 categories, encompassing film, print and video game production, including Best Music Video and Best Video Game Packaging. There was imagination and technical excellence demonstrated in all the productions showcased.
In particular, there had been a real advancement in the range of special effects used in film production this year. The audience was treated to such excitements as exploding cars and even a superbly animated meteor. Special commendation should go to Lewis Birch, Joseph Shaw and Edward Stiven in Year 11, who won two awards in recognition of their impressive short film about a hitman’s last assignment, The Last Act.
After receiving his award for Production Most Likely to Succeed in a Real Media Context, Edward said he was grateful for such a prestigious trophy.
