The Priestly Fraternity of St Peter will soon open a new apostolate in Ecuador, its first home in the South American country.

The establishment of the apostolate comes after two years of missionary work in the area.

“In August 2026, faithful, seminarians and priests from the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter (FSSP) will visit Ecuador for the third time. On this occasion, however, they will not only assist with the material and spiritual needs of Guale, but establish a new FSSP apostolate for the Fraternity in Ecuador,” said a Thursday, August 13, post shared on social media by the fraternity.

During the past two years, the missionaries have been “warmly welcomed” in the community of Guale, said the FSSP.

“The fruits of this work have become clear – the most prominent being that the Fraternity is here to stay,” they said.

The missionaries arrived in Ecuador after being invited by Bishop Eduardo Castillo Pino of Portoviejo, said the FSSP. Bishop Castillo Pino “has shown great support for the promotion of the Traditional Latin Mass and is now opening the doors to this new apostolate.”

Fr Xavier Proust, FSSP, will serve as priest-in-charge of the new apostolate, said the FSSP, which will open on August 19.

“Let us pray fervently for its fruits and for the perseverance of all who will labour there,” said the fraternity.

Upon the establishment of the apostolate in Guale, the FSSP will have two locations in South America. The other is located in Colombia’s Diocese of Girardot.
