“She was made to feel special, like nothing she did could ever be wrong. She was encouraged to be open and free, to ignore the natural instincts which might protect her from predators. At a young age she was picked up and instructed in the art of pleasure, including self-pleasuring. She was told that conservative dress codes were oppressive and that she should feel able to express herself, be kinky! She moved from long to short skirts, hitched them high and lowered the buttons on her shirt. She was encouraged to pursue her desires and not to let nature get in the way. Pumped full of drugs from a young age, drugs which meant she could be used and discarded more easily, but when these failed, she found herself diseased and pregnant. More drugs, a trip to be ‘fixed’, tidied up, made presentable. She no longer knew what it was to be a woman, if anything at all. She had been picked up and put down so many times, it was all she knew. She was deadened by it all. In fleeting moments she glimpsed the promise of love, of someone willing to lay down their own life to protect her, but it was always the same – once they’d got what they wanted from her, they left. Every choice she made was informed by this cycle she was trapped in.”
As important as it is to remember the ongoing devastation caused by the Pakistani grooming gangs, this is not about them, it’s about life in modern Britain for a young girl.
Western society is one big grooming gang, and Lily Allen (who casually spoke of the numerous abortions she has had), is a victim of it.
She, and many Lilys besides (I’m looking at you Phillips), is the victim of a failed liberalism, a flattened hierarchy, a cancerous rights-based culture and that big win for men, feminism. Would Lily Allen be happier living in Christendom? Undoubtedly, yes.
But, happiness, like love, is a word that has been perverted such that we now use it to mean subjective satisfaction, rather than an eternal reality.
In Matthew 5:3-12, Christ proposes a vision of happiness which is the exact opposite of what everyone in the post-Christian West assumes it to be.
When Harvard University invited Mother Teresa to give a commencement address, she shocked them by taking issue with the gracious invitation they sent to her, which read ‘…the most famous person in the world’s poorest nation, to address the world’s richest nation’.
“India is not a poor nation,” she said, “She has a wealth of true spiritual riches. And America is not a rich nation…she is a desperately poor nation. She slaughters her own unborn children.”
To paraphrase Chesterton, from the lunatic’s point of view, it is the sane outsider who is insane.
Mother Teresa lived outside the asylum and saw that what we call ‘happiness’ today was nothing but an illusion. It doesn’t even do what it says on the tin. Lily Allen, like me, my friends and all our daughters, were sold a pack of lies. The rates of suicide and depression amongst the Western nations confirm it.
“How useful it is then,” Catholic philosopher Peter Kreeft observes, “for us to have a continual supply of outsiders, the Saints, to remind us of where we live: east of Eden, in a lunatic asylum. Christ gives us a map to show how far east of Eden we are.”
But Lily didn’t have the map. This is a woman whose own father (and fellow inmate) made a joke of her having sex with his friend when she was 14. A woman who grew up in a society apprising her of her right to have sex outside of marriage. A society which described pregnancy like a tumour, pushed endlessly for access to healthcare to deal with said tumour, and made socially and legally acceptable an operation to remove the ‘destructive cells’ right up to the point they might break out and destroy her life. Is it really so shocking to hear Lily Allen talk so casually about abortion?
What good does it do to be angry with her?
Our fury should be directed towards the guardians of liberalism, those peddlers of filth we call ‘teachers’, those sterilising and murderous ‘physicians’ who mutilate women, destroy babies and will soon ‘euthanise’ the costly and inconvenient. It should be directed towards the purveyors of pornography, the mind-moulding media and those who talk endlessly about ‘free’ speech but say not a word of ‘correct’ speech.
Where is the outrage about the asylum Lily Allen is locked in? Where are the Saints on the outside, showing her a way out and opening the door to free her, so that she can enter the Kingdom prepared for her?
We can sing all we want about ‘setting the prisoners free’ but as long as we’re locked in the jail alongside them, it’s nothing but a distracting sing-along.
