Harrison Butker is a winner. Literally, in the sense that on 11 February 2024, the young American football player won his NFL team, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Super Bowl. In doing so he also broke the 30-year-old record for the longest field goal in the competition’s history.
But Harrison Butker is a winner in many other ways also. And it this very success which largely explains why now, after he made an inspired speech affirming Catholic beliefs at a graduation ceremony of a Catholic university, he is the subject of an unusually malicious media and mob onslaught.
