In the wake of the Supreme Court striking down strict restrictions on abortion in Texas, a new national opinion poll finds that the majority of Americans favour abortion restrictions, despite describing themselves as "pro-choice".

Results from a new Marist Poll, released on July 25, showed that although 51% of Americans say they are "pro-choice", about 8 in 10 support substantial restrictions on abortion, and would limit it to be performed within the first three months of pregnancy. This includes 62 percent of those who identify as "pro-choice," 85 percent of African-Americans and 84 percent of Latinos.
