Archbishop Roberto González Nieves of San Juan de Puerto Rico has demanded that Donald Trump issue an apology after a comedian delivered what many have condemned as a racist joke at a campaign rally for the Republican presidential candidate.

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe was among 30 speakers who warmed up for Trump at a MAGA rally in New York's Madison Square Garden on 27 October. In remarks that have drawn widespread criticism, Hinchcliffe said: “I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”
