Pupils sample delights of international music

On Saturday October 9 New Hall School in Chelmsford, Essex, hosted a singing day for students in Year 4 to Year 6. Children from a large number of schools in the Essex area took part.

They included the following: Ursuline Preparatory and Brentwood Preparatory in Brentwood, St Cedd’s, Widford Lodge and Elm Green in Chelmsford, St Philomena’s in Frinton on Sea, St Margaret’s in Gosfield, St Joseph the Worker in Hutton, Woodlands Preparatory in Hutton Manor and Warley, St Michael’s in Leigh on Sea, St Mary’s in Shenfield, Alleyn Court in Southend on Sea, St Joseph’s in Upminster as well as children from New Hall Preparatory School.

Andrew Fardell, director of music, said: “We were amazed at just how quickly the students learned new repertoire and the enthusiasm with which they performed. We even managed to present a short opera in the afternoon run-through.”

New Hall was founded by the Canonesses of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. The school’s spirituality is based in the Augustinian tradition, with a special emphasis on the Resurrection, prayer, community life and service.
