An update on our print magazine

As The Catholic Herald continues to grow, now reaching more than 700,000 readers each month in over 135 countries, we are making a thoughtful adjustment to our print schedule.

Beginning in 2026, the magazine will move from six print issues a year to four. Each edition will be produced to the same high standards of writing, design, and storytelling that readers expect, while allowing us to shape each issue as a more focused quarterly journal.

Importantly, subscription pricing will remain unchanged. Our aim is not to ask more of our readers, but to deliver a higher-quality, more substantial print magazine with each issue.

This change reflects both opportunity and realism. Our digital readership is expanding rapidly, with more than 8 million monthly impressions across social media, and new readers and subscribers joining us every week. At the same time, we must face the economic realities of print publishing in order to secure a sustainable future for the magazine.

Moving to four print editions will allow us to integrate our growing digital output more closely with the magazine, with each issue bringing together the best of our online reporting and commentary alongside exclusive long-form features, essays, and reflections, designed to be read slowly, kept and shared.

From 2026, The Catholic Herald will publish four print editions each year:

  • Lent (Spring): 27 February
  • Pentecost (Summer): 29 May
  • Michaelmas (Autumn/Fall): 25 September
  • Advent (Winter): 18 December

This is not a reduction in ambition, but a repositioning of the print magazine: preserving its place as a trusted and distinctive part of The Catholic Herald while allowing it to reach new audiences around the world. Our aim is for every edition to be something readers actively look forward to — a quarterly showcase of Catholic thought, culture and reporting at its best.

We are deeply grateful for the support of our subscribers, whose loyalty has made this next phase possible. We look forward to continuing this journey with you, in print and online, in the years ahead.
