Jesus Christ is present amid the destruction and suffering in Gaza, according to Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

The cardinal was speaking on Tuesday, 22 July, at a press conference alongside His Beatitude Theophilos III, the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem. The two men visited Gaza last week, a day after the Israeli Defence Force fired – accidentally, it has subsequently been reported– on the only Catholic church in the region, located in the parish of the Holy Family. Three people were killed in the blast, and several others were injured, including Father Gabriel Romanelli.
