Pro-lifers are facing a “rise in censorship” at universities, according to a group that supports pro-life societies.
Hundreds of students have called for a pro-life group at Cardiff to be disbanded while a motion at Newcastle University’s student union urged that a pro-life society there be “de-ratified”.
The cases were reported by the Alliance of Pro-Life Students (APS), which is run by students and recent graduates.
The motion at Newcastle said the university’s Life Society was a “discriminatory group that alienates and will make many young women feel unwelcome on campus, and therefore this society is against union policy”. The motion was defeated. A petition at Cardiff, which has so far gathered 232 signatures, accused pro-lifers of exploiting the “trauma of abused women to satisfy their own self-interested political and religious agendas”.
