California’s First Lady and the Rightward drift of young men

In the past year, conservatives and liberals alike have grown concerned at the surge of young men embracing far-right rhetoric espoused by problematic figures like Nick Fuentes, while worshipping toxic self-proclaimed hyper-masculine figures like Andrew Tate.

Some aptly guessed that decades of male erasure and an increasingly feminised society were essentially making young men ‘act up’. Men – sick of being told they were inherently bad and oppressive, denied opportunities because of DEI, and ultimately ignored by society – were running into the open arms of the few public voices that empathised with their plight.

This context makes the recently resurfaced clips of Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, incredibly ironic. In one clip, Mrs Newsom bemoaned the fact that men are moving to the Right and shared that her son is apparently a huge fan of Tate.

‘We’re like one of the most progressive households and our son is confused and asking all these questions,’ Newsom said in the clip, expressing concern at this embrace of ‘scary’ ideas, which she blamed on tech.

Mrs Newsom should look inward. Her son’s embrace of Tate – and conservative figures like the now-deceased Charlie Kirk – is a real-world example of what seems to be happening nationwide: men rejecting the toxic, feminist and progressive ideologies that villainise them.

Mrs Newsom’s tone and her agonisingly slow speech – a possible attempt to convey depth that her words lack – come off condescending and privileged before one even processes what she is saying.

Her ideas are even worse. For example, Mrs Newsom brags about how she gives her boys dolls to play with. She also thinks it’s empowering that she often replaces male protagonists in stories with female protagonists so that her sons know women can be heroes too.

If Mrs Newsom knew anything about men, she would know that unlike women, they’re not keen on subliminal messaging. This weird story stunt probably didn’t make them view women any differently. Instead, it told them that their own mother had a weird fixation with erasing male heroes – even from fictionalised storybooks. No wonder her son loves Tate.

Amidst a litany of exhausting progressive propaganda, Mrs Newsom has denounced President Trump’s recent firings of Attorney General Pam Bondi and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as evidence of the ‘war on all women’ and the ‘patriarchy’.

Mrs Newsom apparently hates the term ‘First Lady’, and hopes that someday to change that title to ‘First Partner’. She also has said that evangelicals are ‘pulling us back as a country to a time and a palace where we don’t deserve to be, and we’re not gonna be’. This is an interesting take when almost a quarter of the nation identifies as evangelical, and men especially are increasingly religious.

In another clip, Mrs Newsom preaches about how more women in tech early on would have resulted in greater censorship of bad ideas – which certainly won’t land well with the millions of Americans concerned with free speech, especially the young men flocking to Fuentes because they are tired of being told what they can’t say.

In one of the most embarrassing clips, Mrs Newsom shares how she attempted to relate to inmates at San Quentin prison by sharing how she accidentally killed her own sister as a child. In Mrs Newsom’s own words, the inmates were probably ‘shocked’ that ‘this blonde lady…wasn’t punished the way they were’ and by her assumption that their crimes were probably accidents too.

These condescending clips are the perfect simile for the Democratic Party. Again and again, radical progressives package evil or ridiculous ideas in a seemingly intelligent way, while their little ‘blonde lady’ and other flashy spokespeople think their radicalism will wow audiences.

At this point in America, however, pretty much everyone just finds it embarrassing and cringe – especially young men.

Just look at the recent election results. According to Pew Research, 55 per cent of men voted for President Trump in 2024. And while women are growing increasingly progressive, it’s unquestionable that the “girl boss” mantras of the early 2000s are dead. Tradwife content and even the questionable ‘stay-at-home-girlfriend’ trends indicate that women across the board are similarly tiring of the feminist propaganda that elites like Mrs Newsom are feeding them.

Even still, Mrs Newsom won’t let up.

The little ‘blonde lady’ will continue condescending to the rest of America, villainising young men, and destroying her husband’s presidential ambitions from their $9 million California home – all while thinking she’s perfectly adorable and relatable.

Meanwhile, her hostility towards the traditional values of faith, family, masculinity and femininity are the very reason her son is joining the droves of men who are fleeing the Democratic Party.
