Can you be Catholic and Democrat? Once again, this tired debate has reared its ugly head after a Democrat group called Catholics Vote Common Good launched a new campaign to attract Catholic voters to the Democratic Party ahead of the midterms.

The group hopes to target areas with high rates of Catholic voters, using a series of advertisements and messaging to convince them that Catholics belong in the Democratic Party. This is incredibly ironic, given that the Democratic Party has openly harassed and persecuted anyone holding Catholic beliefs for the past several years. The mere fact that Catholics Vote Common Good backed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election speaks volumes.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane. The Biden administration was one of the most hostile, anti-Catholic administrations in American history. Despite President Biden’s claims that he was a “devout Catholic”, he repeatedly promoted policies that gravely contradicted Catholic teaching and promoted a culture of death. For example, President Biden’s administration denounced the historic Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, which ended Roe v Wade. The Biden administration then proceeded to force far-left, late-term abortion policies on the rest of the country – not only at the federal level, but in the states through constitutional amendments that would allow abortion for any reason, at any time, and even when babies can feel pain or are viable outside the womb.

The Biden administration also promoted extreme gender ideology, including the transgender mutilation of minors who were not even legally allowed to drink, drive or vote yet. Not content with just this, the Biden administration also sought to force extreme gender ideology on the rest of America. Biden’s attempt to pervert the meaning of Title IX to include gender identity, rather than biological sex, put women and girls in danger across America. This change allowed biological men to compete on women’s and girls’ sports teams, and to share their locker rooms, bathrooms and even cabin or dormitory rooms.

Far-left Democrats in the Biden administration also ignored nearly 400 attacks on Catholic churches and pregnancy centres nationwide. The Biden administration’s message was heard loud and clear nationwide: Biden had no mercy for victims he disagreed with politically. Not only that, but the Biden administration aggressively weaponised the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice against people of faith and pro-life advocates, seeking to enforce heavy prison sentences on non-violent offenders of the Freedom to Access Clinic Entrances Act (FACE). Democrat offenders of this law were not touched.

Perhaps one of the most insane attacks on Catholics was discovered near the end of the Biden administration, when Americans discovered that the FBI Richmond Field Office had circulated a memo which labelled traditional Catholics an extremist threat. The memo, which was circulated to several field offices across the country, encouraged agents to infiltrate Catholic religious services to detect alleged signs of extremism. When questioned about this damning document, FBI officials lied under oath. This alone should tell Catholics where they stand in the Democratic Party.

Yet perhaps the largest issue that Catholics face in the Democrat Party is what the Biden administration repeatedly showed: it is not enough for Democrats to exclude faithful Catholics who oppose their extreme policies. Democrats will target, harass and silence any Catholics who stand in the way of their radical agendas.

Just look at how the Democrats reacted when Catholic or Christian consciences conflicted with far-left Democratic measures. Cake bakers, website designers, pregnancy resource centres and even Catholic Religious sisters have been harassed for years with exhausting and excessively expensive litigation to defend their sincerely held religious beliefs from Democratic attack. Yet Democrats want us to believe they want us in their party.

The truth is that Democrats do not want us in their party any more than they want a Republican in the White House. They have repeatedly shown that they mock and despise everything that Catholics stand for, and that they will do anything to destroy Catholics who stand in their way. Their current ploy to garner Catholic voters is merely a desperate attempt to regain a political foothold in a nation that is increasingly tired of their radical, anti-American antics.

Catholics turned out in historic numbers for President Trump in the 2024 election. Many rightly guessed that the Biden administration’s extremism, and Vice President Kamala Harris’s obvious scorn for Catholics, had played a role. It is unlikely that American Catholics are going to suffer from a bout of amnesia this time around: they must go to the polls knowing that their rights, freedom and firmly held religious beliefs hang in the balance.
