North Yorkshire council staff involved in counter-terrorism work were taught that the Virgin Mary “wore a hijab” during a publicly funded Islamophobia lecture. The talk was part of the larger, also publicly funded, training programme “Project Unity”, which the Telegraph reported had been presented to civil servants, police officers and students.

Project Unity, a series of lectures aimed at opposing Islamophobia and emphasising Islam’s compatibility with British values, included material defending Sharia as a moral tradition “shaped by faith, reason and a commitment to human dignity”, comparing it to Christianity.
