The Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN) has said that the “challenge should not end here” following the defeat of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill on September 11. In a September 15 statement, it noted that Catholic organisations as well as the bishops of England and Wales had been “vocal in opposing iterations of the assisted dying Bill”.
The House of Commons rejected the Bill, which would have legalised assisted suicide for people aged 18 and over who are expected to die within six months, with 286 MPs voting against and 270 in favour.
