DILI – An estimated 600,000 Catholics attended the Mass celebrated by Pope Francis on his last day in East Timor. It meant that nearly half of the small island country’s entire population of 1.35 million turned up.
They heard the Pope stress the importance of becoming small and humble in order for God to work miracles, and him cautioning against a world in which the wealthy and affluent became seduced by their riches. This included him describing how a seemingly perfect existence often hides a reality that is much darker, wretched, harsh and cruel.
