Fr Marc Lyden-Smith celebrated his Mass as a newly ordained priest in his home parish of St Aloysius church, Hebburn, Tyne and Wear, on Sunday, June 13, writes Edward S Lewis.
Bishop Seamus Cunningham ordained Fr Lyden-Smith in his own parish of St Aloysius. He was the first priest to be ordained there for 37 years.
The ordination took place on June 12, with 60 priests taking part in the ceremony. The happy occasion was witnessed by family, friends and local parishioners.
Fr Lyden-Smith's younger brother, Matthew, an altar server at St Aloysius, performed the role of cross bearer for the ordination, and also for Fr Lyden-Smith's first Mass as a priest.
