Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance welcomed their fourth child, a son, on July 19, 2026.
“We are excited to announce our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,” a statement signed by JD and Usha Vance said on Sunday afternoon.
“Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
The Vances thanked the “incredible military doctors and staff members at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit”, saying they had been “a blessing” throughout Usha's pregnancy.
Alec joins older brothers Ewan, 9, and Vivek, 6, and older sister Mirabel, 4.
The Vances announced on January 20 that they were expecting a son in late July. In the announcement, they expressed their gratitude for the “military doctors who take excellent care of our family and for the staff members who do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children”.
In his recent book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, the Vice President said the assassination of podcaster Charlie Kirk was one of the reasons he and his wife decided to have another child. The Vances and the Kirks were friends, and Usha Vance was seen consoling Erika Kirk as they boarded Air Force Two to transport Charlie Kirk's body to Arizona.
“As my wife held Charlie Kirk's widow on the first day of her terrible sorrow, Erika told Usha between sobs that she regretted having only two kids with Charlie,” Vance wrote.
“For years, I'd asked Usha to have another baby, and for years, she told me she was done, especially now that public service had elevated us into the national spotlight. But something changed for Usha, and not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy.”
Usha Vance is the first Second Lady in modern history to give birth while her husband was in office.
Jacqueline Kennedy was the last First Lady to give birth while her husband was President. Her son, Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, was born prematurely in 1963 and died two days later.
