With the media focus on British politicians considering an assisted suicide bill in the UK Parliament today, Ireland’s top archbishop has reminded Catholics that a similar bill is also being evaluated in Dublin this week.
Archbishop Eamon Martin of Armagh in Northern Ireland, as well as the Primate of All Ireland, has called on citizens in both the north and south of the island to stand up against the legalisation of assisted suicide.
Earlier this month in the UK, Labour MP Kim Leadbeater announced she was introducing a Private Members Bill to the British Parliament in Westminster. This would allow terminally ill, mentally competent people to end their own life with a doctor’s assistance.
