Archbishop John Wilson of Southwark has presented the Archbishop’s Medal to Barry and Margaret Mizen, parents of Jimmy Mizen, for their work promoting peace and reconciliation through the Mizen Foundation. Archbishop Wilson said the couple had shown that “Christian faith is not merely something we profess with our lips, but something that can transform even the darkest experiences into a source of light for others”.
The Mizen Foundation was founded following the murder of Jimmy Mizen in 2008. Since then, the charity has worked alongside schools across the country, with the aim of assisting young people in working for the safety of their communities. The Foundation works with Caritas Southwark, helping to inform and shape the Archdiocese's response to knife crime and youth violence with a focus on forgiveness through faith.
