A new organisation has been established to support Catholics with autism, their families and parish communities to be a “source of support and a catalyst for change”.
Catholic Autism UK founder Deacon Mark Paine told the Catholic Herald that autistic Catholics can face “barriers to participation in sacramental preparation” as well as in parish groups and faith formation programmes.
“These barriers arise not from deliberate exclusion, but simply because activities have not been designed with neurodiverse participants in mind. No one consulted neurodiverse people.”
