The Vatican has denied that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has a degenerative neurological condition. Benedict’s brother, 94-year-old Mgr Georg Ratzinger, was quoted by German magazine Neue Post as saying Benedict had a nerve disease that was slowly paralysing him. The Holy See press office said that “the alleged news reports of a paralysing or degenerative illness are false”.
Miracle nun: ‘I am not a star’
A nun whose recovery from decades of spinal problems was declared a miracle insists that she is “not a star”. A French bishop declared on February 11 that Sister Bernadette Moriau’s recovery after she visited Lourdes was a miracle. It is the 70th miracle attributed to the pilgrimage site. Sister Bernadette told reporters she gave up morphine after visiting Lourdes, adding: “I am here to bear witness, but I am not here to make you believe me.”
