Cardinal Orani João Tempesta, Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, has survived a carjacking by several gunmen without suffering harm, Brazilian police officials have said. The cardinal was stopped on Sunday night while travelling in a chauffeur-driven car along with two friends. The gunmen forced them to get out of the vehicle and then drove off in it. Brazilian media said the cardinal had been returning from Mass. It was the second armed attack against Cardinal Tempesta in a year, according to the Associated Press. In another carjacking in September the cardinal was robbed of his mobile phone and crucifix.
