With the UK General Election only two weeks away, a leading English bishop has addressed one of the hot-button issues of the election: immigration.
Refugees live in a climate of “constant fear of violence and exploitation,” said Bishop John Arnold of Salford – which covers greater Manchester – in a statement released to coincide with Refugee Week, an arts and culture festival "celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary".
“A refugee has no security of home, livelihood, safety, or healthcare," the bishop said, noting that the Global Refugee Forum estimates that there are now 130 million refugees and displaced people in our world – "a number that is difficult even to imagine".
