President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference Cardinal Matteo Zuppi is set to conclude his three-day diplomatic mission to Moscow, which took place between 28 and 30 September. As Pope Leo XIV’s special envoy for humanitarian issues, the trip has continued the Holy See’s work towards the release of prisoners of war and the achievement of peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Ahead of the visit, Cardinal Zuppi spoke with the Russian news agency TASS. He described his task as addressing issues in the war such as prisoner exchanges, the safety of children and the dangers and problems faced by civilians.
