Archbishop Malcolm McMahon, the Archbishop of Liverpool, and Bishop Tom Neylon, Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool, have signed and issued a joint statement with other local Christian leaders after the horrific attack that took place in Southport on 29 July in which three young girls were killed.
Violent unrest and clashes subsequently broke out in the northwest England town following the stabbing rampage at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class that claimed the lives of the three children.
Police have said they are not treating the attack as terror-related, though they also say the motive remains "unclear" and have released very few details of the suspected attacker who is a 17-year-old male. According to a Daily Telegraph article, the suspect's family moved to Britain from Rwanda, he was born in Cardiff and moved to Southport 10 years ago, and is described by former neighbours as an "introverted child" from a "normal family".
