Catholic students Maria McGoff and Isabelle Cox, from St Bede’s College in Alexandra Park, Manchester, have been selected to play for the England rounders squad. The two 13-year-old students who live in south Manchester have been selected to play for the U14 England squad. Isabelle has been selected as a bowler and Maria as a backstop. Maria said about her selection: “I am delighted to have been selected; it is great to be able to represent your country.”  The two girls are both all-round sportswomen representing their college at netball, hockey, athletics and cross country. Nicky McCormick, head of girls PE, said: “We are delighted that the girls have been selected for the England squad. They are very talented players. “St Bede’s has an excellent reputation for school sport and a number of our students have represented their country and have gone on to take it up professionally.” St Bede’s is an independent Catholic day school founded in 1875 by Cardinal Vaughan when he was Bishop of Salford. Five hundred priests have been educated at the school.
