A concert at a Jesuit school has raised more than £1,000 in sponsorship money to support a charity bike ride challenge in aid of the British Legion. Money collected from the event was presented to Mount St Mary’s College parents Ted Daly and Russell Kulmer after they completed a gruelling 250-mile journey from London to Paris alongside 300 other cyclists. This was combined with money collected from casual days at the Derbyshire school to raise a total of £1,200. Ted’s son, George Daly, and Russell’s sons, James and Matthew Kulmer, are all pupils at Mount St Mary’s College. The Academy Concert featured the school’s Senior Choir performing “The Armed Man” by Karl Jenkins, a famous piece written as a response to the Bosnian War. Lucy Kitchener, director of music at Mount St Mary’s College, said: “The Academy Concert is always a wonderful occasion giving opportunities for senior pupils to perform alongside a professional orchestra. When we heard about the cycling challenge we decided that raising sponsorship money at the concert was the ideal way to support Ted and Russell. They did fantastically well to complete such a long journey and we are delighted our fundraising total will go towards such a worthy cause.”
