‘I’d like to prosecute any nun who still wears the head habit.’

This text from a United States Department of Justice prosecutor investigating attendees of the January 6th ‘Stop the Steal’ rally should chill every faithful Catholic to their core. For four years, the Biden Administration aggressively weaponised the government against people of faith. Things escalated to a point eerily reminiscent of previous authoritarian dictators who similarly targeted religious citizens – some even to the point of death.

President Trump’s victory in 2024 protected religious Americans from a Kamala Harris presidency that would have further dismantled basic American freedoms. Yet these resurfaced texts serve as an ominous reminder of how the radical left views people of faith, and what we should expect if they regain power.

Concerningly, the very anti-Catholic prosecutor who fantasised about imprisoning traditional religious sisters is now seeking election to Virginia’s 7th congressional district. Catholic Virginians have an obligation to rise up and wholly reject this anti-Catholic bigotry before it gains a stronghold in their beloved state.

The Daily Wire first reported last week on the newly surfaced texts revealing that DOJ prosecutors ‘fantasised about prosecuting Catholic nuns’. According to The Daily Wire, DOJ prosecutors Joseph Cooney and Molly Gaston were texting about photos from the controversial January 6th rally – specifically a photo featuring a group of nuns ‘wearing traditional habits and veils, as well as big Trump scarves around their necks’.

Gaston texted Cooney that she would like to ‘take a special assignment of finding and prosecuting them’, to which Cooney shared his bigoted response that he wanted to target traditional habit-wearing nuns.

This is truly insane. Even more disturbing is that Cooney thinks he deserves a congressional seat in an area of Virginia that The Daily Wire notes is ‘one of the most traditional Catholic dioceses in the United States’. Cooney’s disgust for his Catholic constituents should not be forgotten when they head to the polls – especially after the fear that Virginia Catholics lived in under the Biden Administration.

Virginia Catholics took a major beating from the Biden Administration’s anti-Catholic reign of terror. Virginia was the source of the FBI’s now-infamous anti-Catholic memo, which labelled traditional Catholics as an extremist threat. The FBI circulated this memo to field offices around the country, and used them as a pretext to spy on faithful Catholics – who radical leftists in the Biden Administration saw as leading obstacles to their extremist agendas – at their religious services. The FBI even had agents joining Catholic choirs undercover. The plot is as pathetic as it is disturbing.

When the FBI was caught red-handed, they predictably lied and said that the memo was the product of a ‘rogue’ office. Later, we learned the opposite – that it was circulated far and wide at Catholics’ expense.

Not only that, but the Biden Administration relentlessly targeted and harassed Catholic pro-life advocates across the country for alleged violations of the Freedom to Access Clinic Entrances Act (FACE). The Biden Administration ignored hundreds of instances of overt domestic violence and hate crimes committed against Catholics and people of faith. Instead, they wielded FACE against nonviolent offenders, upon whom they sought to inflict the maximum penalties.

According to The Daily Wire, Cooney defended this weaponisation of FACE in social media posts, writing that ‘I am proud of my team’s work prosecuting people who conspired to barricade a reproductive health clinic…’ The people and crimes in question? Pro-life advocates who, though they should not have been protesting inside abortion clinics, were engaging in prayer protests – singing church hymns and praying the rosary. Among those prosecuted under the FACE Act was Eva Edl, a 90-year-old death camp survivor that Biden’s DOJ effectively sentenced to life in prison for her ‘crime’.

Cooney would have happily let Edl die in jail. Moreover, does his pride in the Biden DOJ’s FACE Act prosecutions extend to the Biden Administration’s utter failure to even acknowledge hundreds of violent attacks on Catholic churches nationwide, including two in Virginia? Each of these attacks were blatant FACE Act violations that Biden’s DOJ chose to ignore because the instigators subscribed to the Biden Administration’s leftist ideology. Cooney is apparently proud of that.

Virginians should take note.

Unfortunately for Cooney, the traditional Catholic values he despises have resulted in massive Catholic communities across the diocese of Arlington. Catholics have a lot of children, and unlike the miserable radical leftists, traditional Catholic families in Virginia seem to actually like each other.

I hope they absolutely demolish Cooney’s campaign, just as he tried to destroy good Catholic sisters for wearing head habits. At the end of the day, it wasn’t about the head habits. It was about the values they represented, that Cooney and his rabid leftist cronies satanically despise.
