Humanae Vitae ‘has been vindicated’
The “liberating truth” of Blessed Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae is as relevant today 50 years after its promulgation, Archbishop Samuel Aquila of Denver has said in a new pastoral letter.The 1968 encyclical, which reaffirmed Catholic teaching that contraception is never permissible, has been vindicated, the archbishop argued. Defending it today “requires courage to stand against the prevailing cultural winds”, he wrote, “but Jesus calls us to do nothing less”.
