The planned sequel to ‘Passion of the Christ’ will be the “biggest film in history”, actor Jim Caviezel has said. ICM partners, which represents the actor, confirmed he will reprise his role as Jesus in the planned film about Christ’s resurrection. “There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience," Caviezel said. “It’s great. Stay tuned.” So far, director Mel Gibson has been tight-lipped about the film, revealing very few details. "I won’t tell you how he’s going to go about it," Caviezel told USA Today. "But I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good." ‘The Passion of the Christ’ was released in 2004 and earned nearly $611 million worldwide on a budget of just $30 million. In America alone it earned $370.8 million, making it the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. The film follows the story of Christ’s death, from the agony in the garden of Gethsemane to his burial in the tomb. In a 2016 interview with USA Today, Mel Gibson spoke of his plans for a sequel. "We’re trying to craft this in a way that’s cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing,” he said. Caviezel said Gibson is finally at a point where he feels ready to start shooting. "Braveheart, that’s a film that took a long time to be able to crack," he said. "The same thing for Passion. And the same thing for this. He’s finally got it. So that is coming."
