Bergsma opened by returning to what he called majoring on the majors, the seven marks of the Christian life he traces to Acts 2: repentance, baptism, the forgiveness of sins together with the presence of the Holy Spirit, devotion to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread and the prayers. He urged a nightly examination of conscience, growing towards a midday and evening exam, and recommended weekly confession, following the counsel of Saint Josemaria Escriva and other spiritual masters, with monthly confession as a baseline.
