St Bede’s College in Manchester has won the Manchester Girls athletics trophy for the second year.
Nicola McCormick, head of girls’ sport, said: “The college has always had an excellent reputation for sport. Andrew Steele, olympic sprinter, is a former pupil of the college and one of our current sixth-formers, Alfred Adegbite, is being tipped for Team GB’s rowing squad in the next Olympics.”
Last year the squad won the trophy at under-14 and this year the team of girls, all aged just 15, won it at the under-16 level.
The competition involved 17 other schools in Manchester and the girls were competing against students who were a year older than them. Other trophies were awarded for: cross country: U-14 Manchester league champions; netball: U-12 Manchester schools champions; netball: U-13 Manchester schools champions; netball: U-15 Stonyhurst tournament champions; netball: U-16 Greater Manchester county schools champions; hockey: U-12 Kings School tournament champions.
