A group of pupils from St Paul’s Catholic High School in Wythenshawe, Manchester recently visited Debdale Water Park for a three hour canoeing experience. The trip was a reward for those pupils who had achieved high attendance records or had excelled in Physical Education. The trip was organised as a PE taster session and aimed to take the pupils out of their comfort zone, giving them the experience of a totally different activity. The pupils reacted positively to the experience and put a great deal of effort into the canoeing. Mike Whiteside, PE teacher at St Paul’s, said: “The session at Debdale Water Park was a challenging, rewarding and exciting experience. It fostered good team building and positive attitudes and gave the pupils a sense of personal achievement.” Wiktor Daron, headteacher at St Paul’s said: “I was pleased to see how well the pupils responded to being outside their comfort zone. An experience like this adds a whole new dimension to their learning”.
