Michael Keaton has paid tribute to his Catholic family after winning the Golden Globe for best comedy actor for his role in Birdman. In an emotional acceptance speech the actor said the themes of his upbringing were "work hard, don't quit, be appreciative... don't ever whine". He said he did not remember a time when his father "didn't work two jobs" and his mother "wasn’t saying the rosary or going to Mass or trying to take care of seven kids in a rundown farmhouse" while volunteering at a hospital. Mr Keaton also praised and thanked his own son.
