This week I spoke to Matthew A Shadle, Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. Matthew asks this week: “Does the Just War theory have a future? This question was raised at a recent Vatican conference on non-violent peace making, hosted by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and Pax Christi International.” He writes that “the conference participants appealed to Pope Francis to declare that the traditional just war theory is obsolete and that Christians should dedicate their efforts to non-violent peace making.” I telephoned Matthew to find out whether we were about to see the end of Just War Theory in the Catholic Church.
