By Simon May “King Loses Truss,” the news sheets make report. Thus- “dear oh dear”, the Carolean Court, Impartially salutes (‘mid other banes) That mighty work of straddling two reigns! “Capax imperii? ” needs conscience tacit To supplement with “nisi imperasset". Yes, Pluvius baptised her Number Ten, But what then grew was green, and green again. A loyal friend was banished from Eleven, Destined to oppose a Hunt-struck Heaven. New fundaments were caused to grace the bench (Some second Braverman to woo the French); All she “delivered” was the ancient law, Of greasy pole become revolving door. Now she is gone, howe’er shall we remember? Hic labor est: no statue to dismember! ( Damnatio memoriae, gruesome fate, Suggests at least some service to the state.) But, o for the pen of Juvenal or Horace To celebrate a redivivus Boris.
