Pope Francis has named Mgr Edward Deliman, who is a priest of the Philadelphia Archdiocese and is currently a pastor in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, as an auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese. The 69-year-old priest, ordained in 1973, has been pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Bensalem since 2014. The appointment was announced May 31 in Washington by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, apostolic nuncio to the United States. Bishop-designate Deliman's episcopal ordination is scheduled for August 18. Born March 4, 1947, in Lorain, Ohio, Bishop-Designate Deliman pursued seminary studies at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in the Philadelphia suburb of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor's degree in 1969 and a Master of Divinity degree in 1973. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1973 and named a monsignor by St John Paul II in 1991. Bishop-designate Deliman has been pastor of St Charles Borromeo Parish for the past couple of years. He has served as pastor of parishes in Philadelphia, Bensalem and West Chester since 1991. For the first 13 years of his priestly ministry he had served as an assistant pastor for parishes in Philadelphia, West Chester, Hatboro and Cheltenham. He also served five years, 1986-91, as parochial vicar at the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. In addition to his parish assignments, Bishop-designate Deliman also has served the archdiocese at the archdiocesan tribunal, its Office for Youth and Young Adults and its Office for Youth Ministry. He was spiritual director of St Charles Borromeo Seminary and priest vocation coordinator in the first decade of the 2000s. He also served on the archdiocesan priests' council and the Diocesan Priest Continuing Formation Committee.
