Pope Francis has reiterated his support for mothers who breastfeed in public. During a ceremony in which he baptised 33 infants on Sunday in the Sistine Chapel, Pope Francis encouraged mothers to breastfeed their babies. He said: "You mothers give your children milk and even now, if they cry because they are hungry, breastfeed them, don't worry." The Pope's words were a departure from his prepared homily text which said "give them milk" but he changed it when he spoke and used the Italian term "allattateli", which means "breastfeed them." He went on to say: "Let us thank the Lord for the gift of milk, and let us pray for those mothers - and there are too many of them, unfortunately - who are not in a position to feed their children. Let us pray and try to help these mothers. Thus, what milk does for the body, God's Word does for the spirit: God's Word makes faith grow. Thanks to faith, we are created by God. This is what happens in Baptism."
