Pope Francis has left the Philippines this morning bringing his six day papal visit to South Asia to a close. According to reports, more than one million people took to the streets around Manila airport to say goodbye to the pontiff, who smiled and waved at the crowds from the Popemobile. President Benigno Aquino then led a farewell ceremony on the runway, during which a group of children sang and danced for the Pope. As he boarded his plane, Francis turned and gave a final wave to the Philippines, with the plane taking off at around 10am local time. Highlights of the Pope's time in the Philippines included his visit to survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in Tacloban, where he braved a tropical storm to give an off the cuff speech, and the papal Mass in Manila which attracted more than six million people, according tot he Vatican.
