A group of 70 students and parents from St John Bosco Primary school in West Bromwich, West Midlands, along with some friends from St Mary Magdalene Primary nearby, spent the day on Saturday as guests of West Bromwich Albion Football Club. On arrival at the Hawthorns the group had an hour’s coaching session with staff from the Albion Foundation it was then on to the club shop, then a tour of the grounds. During this tour the children were very fortunate to meet several first-team players who happily stopped to sign autographs and have their photos taken. After lunch, provided by the club, everyone took their seats in the ground for the Premier League match against Liverpool. Owen Carter in Year 6 had his birthday announced over the loudspeaker to the 28,000 fans in the ground. During this season St John Bosco have made several visits to near neighbours Walsall FC and pupils have been lucky charms. Their visit to West Brom proved that this good luck spell is not just reserved for one club as they witnessed a fantastic 2 - 1 win for the Baggies against Liverpool. Everyone was delighted, except for the two Liverpool fans Year 5 teacher Miss Ellicott and pupil Mitchell Wilkinson. The day was set up and organised by Ray Shelton and Jan Lockley from West Bromwich Albion who have close links with St John Bosco School.
