Junior firefighters from St Joseph’s College in Trent Vale, Staffordshire, learned there was no smoke without fire as they passed their firefighting course at Sandyford Fire Station. St Joseph’s Catholic College sent 12 Year 8 pupils to spend time learning about fire prevention and how to tackle fires during a special Staffordshire Fire Service course. The course not only develops fire safety awareness, which the children are encouraged to pass on to their parents and siblings, but also develops team building and self-esteem. St Joseph’s College inclusion manager Cath Machin was full of praise for the Fire Service. She said: “The boys and girls always feel an immense sense of pride when they are given their certificates by the brigade commander. “It’s a wonderful course which teaches practical skills, social responsibility and team work and St Joseph’s is very grateful for the time, effort and expertise of our wonderful, local firefighters.”
