Eight sixth-form pupils from Cardinal Wiseman School in Coventry are preparing to make a life-changing trip to Malawi. Reede Ashford, Julia Bergin, Daniel Baillie, Millicent Cabalza, Luke McNicholas, Hannah O’Brien, Daniel Russell and Olivia Williams will be accompanied by assistant headteachers Sean O’Donovan and Mark Dettmer, and will be leaving on June 29. Cardinal Wiseman School has been fundraising for projects in Malawi, including Bunda School and Kasina Health Clinic, for over four years in an attempt to make a dramatic difference to students’ lives. The pupils made a final push to raise funds for the projects by running a water-themed fundraising event last Sunday. They walked five miles from school to Coventry Cathedral carrying buckets of water on their heads to recognise the struggle people in Malawi face on a daily basis as a mark of solidarity. They were welcomed at Coventry Cathedral by the Bishop of Coventry, the Rt Rev Dr Christopher Cocksworth.
