The funeral of Fr Colin Fortune took place shortly before Christmas, writes Józef Łopuszyński.

Born on November 3 1949, Fr Fortune suffered a fatal heart attack in Birmingham Symphony Hall on December 1.

Fr Fortune accepted the job of vicar superior of the Sacred Heart Fathers of Betharam at 59.

Fr Austin Hughes, regional provincial superior of the Sacred Heart of Jesus order, said: “For the past 15 years he was parish priest at Holy Name church, Great Barr, on the north side of Birmingham, a large, busy parish. But much of his energy went into his work as a chair of governors at Stuart Bathurst school, where staff and students alike were grateful for his endeavours. Many who felt marginalised by the Church or forgotten by God valued his assurance of their place in the Heart of Jesus. His sudden death after Elgar’s Cello Concerto played by the CBSO was a terrible shock to those around him.”
