Irish pop star Ronan Keating has revealed that he accidentally headbutted Benedict XVI during a Vatican trip. The former Boyzone singer told the Daily Mirror Weekend magazine that his “most embarrassing moment” came in 2011 when he met Benedict XVI during a visit to the Vatican. He said: “When greeting the Pope I was meant to kiss the papal ring – but I head-butted his hand instead. He just laughed at me.” The singer grew in Malahide, north Dublun, one of five children in a Catholic family although he says his faith in God was shaken by the death of bandmate Stephen Gately and he regrets the way priests were feared when he was growing up.
