Argentine football club San Lorenzo is to name its new stadium after its most famous supporter - Pope Francis. San Lorenzo made the announcement on Twitter earlier today. The stadium will be built on land seized from the club during the Argentina's military dictatorship of 1976 to 1983. Pope Francis is a long-term supporter of San Lorenzo and has maintained his club membership since becoming Pope. Since the pontiff's election in March 2013 the club has enjoyed a revival in its fortune, topping the Argentine league and, most recently, winning the Copa Libertadores (the South American equivalent of the Champions League) for the first time in its history. Last month, officials and players from San Lorenzo visited the Vatican to show the Pope the Copa Libertadores trophy.
