On Wednesday June 9 the army student presentation team from Sandhurst paid a visit to St Bede's College, Manchester, to talk to a group of Year 10 pupils about the modern British Army and its role in British society today. Warrant Officer Darren Fisher and Corporal Kerry Brook presented a video which explained the many different aspects of Army life and answered a range of questions from pupils about the realities of being a soldier in difficult times. Ruth Lockett, head of politics at the college, said: "It was a valuable experience for students to gain a much better understanding of why we have an army and its role, especially at a time when Britain is fighting in Afghanistan. The students were very impressed by the professionalism of the two serving soldiers and their talk has given us all much to consider in future class discussions." Mark Mcknight, a pupil, 15, said: "It was an interesting talk and gave us an insight into army life and what they do to help the country."
